upgrading

i have an old mac powerbook (its not Intel based) i cracked the screen but recently learnt i can hook it up to an external screen

it runs either panther or tiger

i was wondering if i download updates will it give me features such as spotlight and front row

or would the not come down as upgrades?

Things may have changed, but if I remember correctly, Front Row only came with new Macs, no the retail version of Tiger.

Spotlight is featured in Tiger and should work in your machine if you have enough memory (256MB is the minimum for this machine, but 512MB or more is far better).
