I've read nothing but horror stories. Unless you have a VERY specific need to do it (multiple users you don't know/trust on the computer), I wouldn't risk it. But that's just my opinion.

I agree. It is more trouble than it is worth.
You should be fine without it.

Anybody else have input? I'm running it now, so far no issues... just curious.

The little I know about FileVault is this: there was a major problem with the app in Mac OS X Panther 10.3.x and it would corrupt the data that was supposedly being protected by the program.

I'm sure Apple has fixed it since then but that's just enough for me to stay away.
