Hi,

I have a Mac Pro, 2.0 GHz, 1GB RAM.

The problem is that each application I run uses a large amount of virtual memory. For instance, now the VM size is 35 GB.

Safari with 10 open tabs uses 3.29 GB of virtual memory. The 4 terminal windows eat up 400 MB. Textedit and Preview: 350 MB each.

Is it normal?

Due to this, my Mac is slow because the hdd is busy dealing with the VM.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks

I the meantime I found the answer.

There's an application called OnyX that deletes, among other things, the application cache on OS X. It seems that this app cache gets loaded into the virtual memory, so it is good to be smaller.
