i have been tearing my hair out about this for hours! i have my camera on video settting, it's plugged in with i movie on, i click file and import but it just shows videos that someone else imported a while ago.....PLEASE HELP!!!:confused:

I take it you are using a DV/Firewire connection? File>import is designed for importing from the HD or files already taken from your camera.

I'm fairly new to iMovie myself but i know that onceyou have connected the Firewire cable and iMovie is set to camera (the little switch below the preview pane)then the import button should appear in the preview pane. You should also be able to watch the footage and forward/rewind on your preview pane using the onscreen controls.
