Hi,
I was just wondering what are your guys take on upgrading from 5400 rpm to 7200 prm harddrive. Is it worth the extra money and hassle? do you notice your macbook being faster? is the bootup time better? etc. Thanks for the help.

I currently have a Macbook with 2GB Ram, thanks

Not really noticeable for me, my MacBook 2Gb 100G 7200 HD doesn't boot any faster than my MacBook Pro with 160G 5400 HD.

What does make a huge difference is cache, both the 5400 & 7200 drives have large caches compared to the 4200 drives, when I upgraded my iBook from a 4200 drive to 5400 the difference was amazing, a lot more so than the numbers would suggest.

The other thing to note is that the 7200 RPM drive will eat through your battery a little faster. I went through this same debate as I figured out how I wanted to configure the MBP I plan to buy as soon as Leopard comes out, and decided in favor of 5400 for battery longevity issues.

Just bought a 160Gb 5400 rpm drive in preference to a 7200 rpm one.
