So it's not in Beta anymore, and it looks like I have to pay or it will limit my bandwidth to 10kb/s. Are there any freeware torrent programs out there that work nicely?

I second the Transmission recommendation.

Just started using transmission last night. It's got a small footprint and does the job without a bunch of frills. I definently recommend it as a no nonsense torrent program.

Downloaded transmission and it does look pretty stripped down and utilitarian, just the way I like it.

I would highly recommend searching. There have been numerous discussions on Torrent programs and you'll find them helpful.

I'm using azureus but thinking of swapping since it's a resource hog, how does transmission stand on that front?

I tried but all I could find were the really old threads that pointed me toward xtorrent in the first place.

I've used Azerus, BitTyrant (a supposedly speeded up version of Azerus) and Transmission so far. I find Transmission to be the best. Very light on options but aslong as it downloads thats all I care about. It also shows your d/l rate on the dock which is quite handy.
Also there is a Mac version of BitTorrent which is free.
