Itunes 7.1.1 problems

I think I recently updated to itunes 7.1.1 and seem to be having some problems.

Nothing will play now and the diamond at the top doesn't move. I can scroll it along but when I press play, nothing.

I've tried reloading itunes several times to no avail.

Any thoughts anyone?

I've now tried resetting the audio and deleting itunes preferences. As a result itunes doesn't open at all. Even reloading itunes fails to make a difference.

I must be getting near to solving the problem.

What Mac is this on?

It's a iMac 2.16, 6 months old. Updated OSX.

If you navigate to YourUserAccount -> Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Music -> and then find any song and click once on it and in the next column that shows, can you play the song in Preview without launching iTunes ?

Are problems with 7.1.1 prevalent? I have a PC and am a bit reluctant to upgrade......
