Is it possible to change a setting somewhere to output screen grabs as JPEGs rather than PNGs?

15" Powerbook G4 • 24" iMac • iPhone 3Gs
Open Terminal and type:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture type image_format

Where "image_format" is "jpg", "pdf", or "png".


Hit Return, log out, log in.

Or try Onyx. There's an option in it to change formats.

I save as TIFFs personally. JPEG screengrabs are full of artifacts.

Brilliant! Thanks a lot mate.

No idea why they didn't just put that option in the preferences of the ScreenGrab app however!!
