Airport Modem?

Hello,

My current router/modem is starting to malfunction, and i wanted to get a the new airport extreme base. However, i always get confused when it comes to buying new modems/routers. Im going to throw away my current modem/router and buy the airport extreme base.

However, my question is: Will i need to buy something else for me to connect to the internet, is the airport base only a router (?) and do i need to get an extra modem? Or how does it work? Can i just buy the airport base, plug everything in, and it will work?

Any help would be apreciated.

What is the brand/model of the router-modem you're currently using? That would help in helping to deterimine what you'll need.
