I'm afraid to say my PMU has become

unusable.

For some reason, things have been sloooooooowing down. Even though I just cleaned out 27 GB of crap, updated to the latest software, it takes 3:30 to boot up.

:(

I'm sorry, but I needed to vent. I'm so sad.

Excuse for a new Mac Mini, though. :D ;) :)

Which Mac is this? What are the specs? This can more than likely be remedied rather easily, but we will need to know some more information first.

it's the powerbook listed in my profile.

1.33ghz
1.25gb RAM
Superdrive
12inch

I'm assuming the PMU is part of the logic board. Using logic(no bad pun intended) I assume if I need a new PMU = I need a new board.

Okay, so we have slowdown and long boot time. What makes you think it is the PMU?
You have plenty of RAM, so that isn't an issue... necessarily. Unless your installed RAM suddenly went cuckoo...but not likely.
I am assuming that you are running OS X 10.4.x which should be fine.
So, software and hardware seem to check out so far.

Things that will slow down your Mac and can possibly affect boot times:

+ cache
+ duplicate fonts
+ unused Apps AND their preference files etc
+ Internet plugins
+ Dashboard Widget overload

Seems like you have cleaned out a bunch of stuff already, but go ahead and check those things listed again, just to be sure. Use something like OnyX to clear your system caches and repair permissions, etc.

These links should offer some more insight on how to clean things up and put the "pep" back into your Mac:

De-gunk your Mac *

Optimizing OS X Performance

The last ditch attempt would be to back up your data and do a clean install.

* (I don't agree with the second part of tip number 1. Defragmenting isn't necessary and won't likely offer any real improvement)

Do you hear any clicking sounds when it's booting up? Besides all that DB suggested, I am just wondering if your Hard Drive is going bad. Try all his suggestions and see if it helps.
