Burning DVDR

Hi guys, not sure if im doing something wrong but I tried to burn a DVDR Img file with Toast 8 and it works fine on my macbook but doesnt work on my DVD player. (which plays everything) also I tired burning some data on to a DVDR and again it works on my mac drive but i tried on a friends Windows Pc and it didnt work.. Where am I going wrong?! Or is there some other software apart from Toast that is good for burning DVDR's CD's etc...

There is always Disk Utility that comes with OS X.
