CD/DVD playback choppy in windows

On the mac side CDs and DVDs have no playback issues. But on the Windows side the audio and video playback with CDs and DVDs is jittery and choppy. I can rip cds and copy from cds to the hard drive with no problem. I am wondering if anyone has had similar issues, or can suggest a way to remedy this? Otherwise I guess I just have to switch to the mac side every time I play a cd.
