For some reason the volume has frozen on my 17inch MacBook Pro.

Here are screenshots of my problem.

I just loaded it up and it randomly did this.

I've tried rebooting and it doesn't appear to have fixed it.

Can anyone help me?

Cheers

I've had this happen before, as well. Try hitting F3 (and if that doesn't work, fn+F3). Sometimes the keyboard-controlled "mute" function seems to override everything else.

Also, go to System Preferences, Sound, Output and make sure that the "Mute" box in the bottom right corner isn't checked.

BTW, repairing permissions is rarely (never?) a solution with Tiger, that problem was resolved as part of the OS upgrade.

Are there any peripherals hooked into the machine? I had this problem with a wireless Logitech mouse I was using...

Maybe you have a stuck key? That could cause it as well.

Have you installed any new software?

I just went to the sound settings and re-set the output to the internal speakers and it unlocked it, back to normal now. Thanks anyway guys!
