Is there a little flag on your menubar?

If not, go to System Preferences, International, Input Menu and click the box at the bottom for "Show input menu in menu bar."

Now click on the flag icon that appeared in the top right of your screen and choose "Show Character Palette" ... from there you should be able to find all the symbols you need.

Does the Mac version include the equation editor? I'd be surprised if it doesn't.

Insert -> Object -> Microsoft Equation

Is that what you mean? I've never used it before but found the built-in Help file quite informative. :ninja:
