I'll be buying a mouse for my future Macbook when I'm not on the move. Any suggestions? I want it to be precise for graphics work. Also, I'm interested in trackballs because they do not require a smooth surface to move on. But I wonder if I'll have a hard time trying to adjust myself to trackball. Please help

Look at Logitech Laser mouses. They use lasers rather than a red LED, so they track well on most surfaces.

I use an MX1000, but it's kind of bulky and not meant for "on-the-go" work.

i've used many trackballs and prefer them in most cases over normal mice. at least the ones that don't use the thumb ball.

eric, what is a thumb ball. Do you mean that the trackball is designed to be used using the thumb?

standard trackballs have a ball that you manipulate with your fingers, and look something like this

now, i don't have extensive history with the thumb models, but i have tried a couple of them out and did not find them to be as comfortable, nor could i point as accurately. i do have two finger operated trackballs, and old school logitech model with a smallish ball centered between two buttons. nice, but too simple. i also have a logitech marbleman fx which has a large ball and more buttons. the resting position of the hand is more natural too (with your hand in almost a shaking hands position). i use this at work interchangably with my very comfortable logitech mouseman wheel.

the only thing i like better than either of those last options is my macbook's trackpad.

Just my two cents, that's the one I've used for years and I swear by it.
