Ok i have a Linksys "G" router for me and my roomates and I can't connect to it. I thought it was because mac WPA wasn't not the same as PC WPA or whatever so I just hooked my Imac to the router via Ethernet cable. It says it says it is connected but i can't access the internet or the controles (192.168.1.1), However when I run Windows in Parallels I can access the router and the internet in Windows but still not on my Mac. I tried to talk to Linksys Tech sopport but they only sopport windows OS so they couldn't help me. Any ideas on whats wrong?

With it connected Wired to the router, open system preferences and click on Network and then on Built in Ethernet. What is the IP address you see? Subnet Mask and Router address?

Your machine isn't getting a DHCP address from the router's DHCP scope. Make sure DHCP is turned on in your Mac's Network configuration and that the router is set for DHCP. Also, if you have a lot of machines using that router, make sure the address pool isn't limited to just a handful of addresses.

cwa107 is totally right. Since Windows on Bootcamp on the same machine is getting an address, OSX should also. Check what cwa107 said and get back to us. That 169 address you are getting is the default one that the OS assigns when no other address is available.

The pic below is how mine is set up. I use that same router by the way.

In Windows :
ok it says "Maximum Number of DHCP Users 50"
then Starting IP Address 192.168.1.11

its seems 50 users would be plenty? but ya 5 people use this router

----------------------
In Mac:

In network when i click on Network Status, and next to Built in Ethernet it says "Built-in Ethernet is currently active. Built in Ethernet has a self-assigned IP Address and may not be able to connect to the Internet." and it has a yellow light

then Parallels host-guest and Parallels NAT have green lights and
have IP addresses of 10.37.129.2 and 10.211.55.2

Open Network from the System Preferences. On the 'Show' field, choose the network connection you're having trouble with (in this case, Built-in Ethernet). Click the TCP/IP tab. Make sure it says "Configure IPv4: Using DHCP". Click "Renew DHCP" and see what address it comes up with. If nothing, try cold booting the machine and see what it comes up with.

It doesn't sound like your router is handing out addresses correctly, it's just that your Mac isn't picking one up for whatever reason. The Parallels installation has its own separate virtual adapter with its own, exclusive settings, which may be why Windows can get out.

Reset the router by unplugging it. If all else fails, do a cold reset by holding the reset button down on the back of the router for 15 seconds after you plug it into power. This will revert the router to defaults, but if it works, it's better than having to buy a new router.

Very cool. That is a good Tip. Linksys does update the firmware and it's a good idea to check.

Glad you got it working.
