Hi there.

I sleep in the same room as my iMac. I've started downloading a large file and want to leave it on overnight, is there a way of doing this but with my macs screen off?

I don't know about the new Imacs, but the G4 imac f15 or f14 keys adjust the brightness, you should be able to turn the back light right off with one of those keys.

Hope that helps.

Open the Energy Saver tab in System Prefs and set Put Display to Sleep after X minutes all the way down to 1 minute. After 1 minute the screen will turn off.
