Need help with an unusual case problem

Hi everyone.

My iBook G4 recently suffered a fall (long story). "Lunchbox" (oh, come on. Don't tell me you don't name your computers, too), has survived being kicked (another long story; all I'm saying is that I didn't do it) and still works excellently. Display, battery, ports, etc. are all in perfect working order. However, the recent fall caused an issue with the case. The bottom edge of Lunchbox's screen came unstuck and now looks like this:

As a result, my computer doesn't close all that well. I'm worried that closing it despite the case problem could cause permanent structural damage. And of course, if I can't close it, I can't take it places. The lack of mobility is getting to be a real problem. So basically, what I'm wondering is: Can I glue this? It looks like a situation where Gorilla Glue or Superglue might be the solution. If it's not, I've got a problem on my hands... any ideas are welcome. Muchisimas gracias!

I would not glue it, being so close to the TFT screen you might damage it even more! My house mate who bought my iBook G4 has gone and done the exact same thing (I could kill him! I have the iBook for over 2 years, not a scratch. He gets it for less than 4 months and bang!) anyway, pardon my rant lol.

He took it to a local Apple specialist who said it would cost around £400 or so to fix. But considering he bought it off me for £400 he is just "living with it" now. He just has to be careful when opening/closing the screen.

My advice to you would be to NOT super glue it as this may cause more problems than its worth. If you can't live with the screen then I would suggest taking it to an Apple store/Apple authorised specialist and getting a quote to see how much it would cost to repair (expect to pay a fair bit!). Then take it from there. if the cost is great then maybe consider putting what you would have spent repairing it towards a new MacBook?

Couldn't you just purchase a new case? I've seen them on ebay for about 20 bucks or something.

The only problem there though is that its not an easy task to transfer the insides of the iBook, which would need someone skilled and could end up costing a fair bit.

There is always the option for you to get one, find a tutorial on line and go for it!

The choice is yours!

I figured I would have to shell out some money, so I started thinking up alternative solutions. In my day-to-day travels, I tend to need to carry around a lot of data, so I recently purchased a nice big flash drive. It's working very well. At some point, I'll have the funds to get my iBook fixed or get a MacBook or Mac mini, but for now, the flash drive is working great. Thanks again for your advice!
