change file extension

Does anyone know how to change the file extension of a file in OS X?

not on my mac right now, but you should be able to do it with "get info" or by changing the finder prefs to show file extensions.

click on any empty space on ur desktop then Finder->preferences -> advanced check the show ext. box.

no select the file and hit enter, just change the part after '.'

Is this as simple as changing the file's name? For example you have a file called hello.txt and you want it to be hello.doc? This is then just an exercise in renaming the file. The simplest way to do this is to click the file icon's name area, wait a short bit and then click it again. You will see it go highlighted in blue and you can then rename, or select just a part of it (for example the extension part) and retype it.

Is this what you are trying to do, or is it more complicated than that?
