spotlight problem

15" MBP - 24" white iMac - 16gb white iphone3G - 20gb iPod colour
I seem to have a problem with spotlight. when click it it only highlights and doesnt actually launch i've no idea what has happened, any ideas?

Remove the com.apple.spotlight.plist and com.apple.finder.plist files in your user library (~/Library/Preferences/) and restart the computer.
