Hello, I am installing 10.4.6 over the top of 10.2.8. When I put in the install CD, double click on install, says to restart the computer, so I do.

When it reloads, I select Use English as the language and press the arrow. It
'prepares for setup', but never goes anywhere. Should I just let it load? I've waited about 20 minutes, nothing happen, the little status bar quit animation.

Any ideas why it keeps stopping at this screen?

What is the Mac you are trying to install 10.4.6? It certainly wont take that long to load. It seems there is a compatibility issue.

Yes, what Mac are you using and where did you get the install discs from?

If the discs are the install/restore discs from a system different than the one you are trying to install them onto (eg. using a PowerBook G4 disc to upgrade an iMac), then it won't work.
If that is the case, then you would have to use a retail version of OS X Tiger 10.4 to upgrade your OS.

You need to buy a retail version of OS X 10.4

I bought a '2nd generation' shuffle and it only works with the newest version of itunes which only works on 10.3.9 and higher. my ibook is at 10.2.8. So if I can't get these install discs to work, any ideas on how to get the itunes to work?

Yes, Pacifist may let you install iTunes on your iBook.
