Movies not appearing in front row

Please excuse my noobie ? First mac and suffering teething problems.
I have some movies in my movies folder but when I try to play them through frontrow it says I have no movies.

Does the fact they're AVI files make a difference

G'day swoffa & welcome to Mac-Forums.

Try importing them into iTunes, if they play OK - try FrontRow again.
