Hi. this morning i thought i heard my computer make this wierd sound, but didnt hear it again so just thought i misheard. well now, at 5:45, its definitely making some really wierd sounds. it almost sounds like an older car stereo with a tape deck, when you rewind or fast foreward. it makes some low pitch whining noise that changes in frequency. its also doing this more frequently. this morning it was hardly doing it. now it's almost doing it non stop. I'm thinking its the HD, so i backed up all my stuff to another laptop. might shut this one down soon. Any ideas on what it could be, or if theres a way to find out? thanks

well i am really new to Macs... but i know at least on a PC (which i assume is the same) when a hard drive starts making sounds, its probably on its way out. Make sure you back everything up...i know on the Macbooks, its very easy to change hard drives... hope this somewhat helps.

It most definatly sounds like an HD failure. I wouldn't expect that HD to last much longer.

Don't trust me though, it's 2:30 AM, and I've been up since 7:00 AM
