I have an iMac G4 700mhz 640ram running OS10.4.8 with an airport card installed. I can't seem to connect to any local networks.

My old iBook G3 has no problem detecting my network as well as several of my neighbor's networks when sitting in the exact same location as the iMac.

If I move the iMac within 10 feet of the router it will detect the network and work without issue. Is there any way to extend the range of the built in airport?

Thanks,

Is the Airport card installed correctly? Is the antenna plugged into the end of the card? It should not be that bad. I have an old G4 500Mhz tower with the old Airport and it gets full signal anywhere in my house.
