hi, i have recently been handed a powerbook g4, 550mhz 256mb ram, however the sc reen on it seems to get a red haze running over some black when it has been on for a while.

could it be over heating? being new to macs i dont know what fail safe devices are in place for over heating.

any ideas on this would be great. cheers.

Shouldn't be heat. I would check the settings for the color. Open your system prefs and then click Displays (OS X). Select the COLOR page and make sure it is set to Apple LCD or the appropriate setting.

Might fix the problem.
