How can I startup with the install disk?

I ran disk utility and it has reported the volume needs to be repaired. I need to startup my mac with the install disk but i am not sure how to do so. Would someone please help me? Thank you.

13'' Macbook w/ 2Ghz Core Duo, 2GB DDR2, 250GB HD, 10.5.4. iPod Touch.
Insert your disk and hold "c" after the start up sound. I believe that that will let you boot to the disk.

I tryed that. Inserted the disk restarted and pressed the c button. A screen came up asking what language would I like to choose. Am I going the right path?

How come when i click next after the language thing it then starts "preparing for installation." Am i missing something? I just want to do a minor repair
