How can I undelete a partition?

Due to a partition table error my partition table (GUID) has been rewritten.
It's partitioned the same as before.
Does someone know how to get back my partition on my external hdd?
The filesystem was hfs+

This is very nearly impossible I am sorry to say. You may be able to get it back with an expensive disk maintenance program, or you may be able to take the disk to a data recovery firm, but once you have deleted the partition table, there are no easy answers any more.

I Googled around a bit, and found several partition table rebuilders for Windows and Linux, but none for Mac OS X.

I did find DiskWarrior, which claims that it can rebuild your system disk, but it seems a bit vague on the details. See:

Disk warrior isn't able to restore my partition.
There is a tool testdisk that finds my partition, but the mac support seems to be not so good.
It's an external disk, so It doesn't matter if I have to use windows or linux.
Does someone know testdisk-like programs?

that uses some linux tools to recover a partition table. It sounds to be very manual, but it is the only thing I have seen so far.

I tried to recreate the partition, but it doesn't work ...

A scan from StellarPhoenix (demo) displays correct partitions, but the demo can't restore the partition
does someone know similar programs for partition-recovery?

I managed to "Split" my Valid Boot partion (LEOPARD), with the Tiger DVD.

I was thinking that TIGER's "non-destructive edits" meant that it would re-size my boot partition, but of course, it just deleted it, and made two new ones, (the resize option was greyed out, I should have left it well alone).

I did this because resized the disc incorrectly, and swallowed up my last 55 gig , ( leaving me no room for windows). Boot Camp would not restore the disc either.

Now I am searching for a partition recovery tool that will run on my emac 800Mhz, so i can Firewire Target mode the Macbook, and recover or repair my mistake.

Drive Genius does not run on 10.2.8, PDisk is looking like a long climb, wish me luck..

If you comfortable with Linux programs then you could use TestDisk to recover the lost partition, however there might a OSX conversion as well that you could use. Otherwise you could use knoppix livecd now that mac is intel based.

You are very gracious with your reply, and i think you are spot on!

I have been struggling with applications compatible with OSX 1.2.8.
I have been struggling with Target mode to my PC, SBP2 Errors on Firewire, or with HFS reading applications for windows.

Now I have squeezed Leopard onto my Hacintosh NC6320, and I am able to run Drive genius, Drive rescue II, and Steller Phoenix, etc etc,,

At last I have some decent tools and a chance of recovering some nice data.
