I want to add another 100GB drive to osx for apps. Should I put os x extended or os x journaled?

Go with the highest form, which is the journaled one. Journaled file systems are the best at recovering from power outages, crashes and the like, since instead of having to scan the entire file system to guarantee integrity, they only have to "replay" the last "n" entries in the journal. Journaled files systems are in wide use everywhere now for this very reason.
