dvd player skips

Imac G5 DVD player skips.

I have tried everything without success. I reinstalled OSX, performed a hardware check, I even put a new optical drive into the computer. Nothing helps.

A Cd plays fine, but a DVD constantly skips. I can record onto a DVD and it plays fine on other devices. So I guess the write head works.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
