Apple + R works fine in Mozilla, but unless I refresh from there first and then hit Apple + R it doesn't refresh from the server, and just from the cache.

Is there an alternative command for refreshing from the server in Safari without having to open Mozilla all the time?

For Safari, simply use the Safari menu and select Empty Cache. Now refresh the page and you will get it directly from the server.
