Quick Onyx & iDefrag Question

First up Onyx:

Parameters --> General --> Speed of display of sheets.

What is this option, and do I leave it at normal or speed it up ?

iDefrag:

I am noticing that my bootup time is getting slower ( my MBP is no more than 4 months old).

I got my hands on iDefrag (not diskwarrior), and wanted to know IF I ought to defrag (I know, I know, it's 'contraversial' - but hey, Apple managed to kill iChat AV with 10.4.8 so whose to say that we can trust them to keep the drive optimized?).

If so, then which algorithm should I opt for?

Thanks guys (and girls).

:)

i haven't touched that onyx parameter.

if you're noticing a bit of slowdown, try this in onyx:

repair permission
clean caches for apps and then system, etc.

you may be required to restart numerous times. let that happen as it requests it.

you may also notice a longer start up time the first time after you clean the system caches. this appears to be normal and it will speed up to normal or better after that restart.

I use onyX regularly and don't alter any default parameters. I just run through the each option in the Cleaning & Maintenance sections and I reboot when prompted.

I use the Fast option for "sheets"- it works great.

Windows finds and fixes truncated files, OS X finds and fixes incorrect permissions.

Neither may seem to cause problems when broken, biut if the OS wants to fix them, let it go ahead.
