My gf has an old G3 iMac: 600mhz, 512MB RAM, 40GBHD currently running OS 9.2.2... can I install OSX 10.4.2 Tiger on it from the discs that came with my G4 iBook?... or will it just be too much for the G3 and cause 'meltdown'?! Thanks

Location
In the mac store and at home on my iMac
I think that you just must upgrade the firmware, (support.apple.com) and buy a new copy of tiger. the ibook g4 disks will mess up the g3 because they are the wrong type of disks

Your Mac's Specs
Al iMac 20" 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
OS X Tiger will work fine, but I suspect the iBook CD won't work. You need the non Mac specific OS X CD.

And update the firmware first.
