I have an xserve running Tiger and it has all the updates. My problem is that it keeps filling up with SMBD processes (100+) and basically come to a greinding halt. I have to force power off and when I restart everything is fine. I am not sure if it coincides with my Dantz Retrospect backing up the attached 2tb RAID? Wondering if anyone has run into these SMBD processes and is there anyway to trouble shoot how and why I am getting them.

FYI- smbd is Samba's daemon, a "service" that runs to allow for file sharing, particularly with Windows machines. Open Console and look through the logs to find out what specific error messages are being generated.
