• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Is there a way to play WMV files with Quicktime on a Mac with a free non-trial/demo codec/converter? Thanks in advance. (PS I already tried Flip4Mac)

if Flip4Mac won't read it, you can try VLC, its not Quicktime, but it can sometimes read it. I've found that most WMV files can't be read on a mac.

I want Quicktime to do it because I'm using these movie files with iMovie, which only works with Quicktime. The reason why I don't want to use Flip4Mac is because it isn't free and it leaves a big watermark on my converted files.

Microsoft themselves said not to use WM for Mac anymore, and to use Flip4Mac.
Only because it doesn't support Mac anymore. I tried flip4mac, WMP is better and gives you a bigger player.

Flip4Mac is well worth the reasonable fee asked. Its integration with Quicktime Pro works flawlessly.
