OS 9 Apple DVD Player won't play DVDs

Hello,

I have a Power PC G3 running OS 9.1. I have Apple Player 1.3. It has an Apple DVD ROM. The machine will view DVDs in the finder, but when I try to play a DVD, I get an error message saying something to this effect: Hardware not found. You may have another program interfering...

I made sure nothing else is accessing the sound card.

I swapped the DVD ROM from another G3.

Does anyone have any ideas?
