Hi!

I am a new mac pro user and to date I have found installing peripherals to be very easy. Everything I have plugged into my mac has worked perfectly....

...except for my Logitech Pro Cam 4000.

I went to the Logitech website and downloaded the designated
mac os x drivers. I did the installation and rebooted the computer.

Upon plugging in the webcam, nothing happened. I went to iChat
and the camera was not indicated.

I went to the Logitech folder on my hard drive and clicked on the
two icons (quick capture and camera control) but both indicated
that that I needed to activate my camera.

Is there additional software that I need here? I am quite
surprised that the camera wasn't instantly detected by mac.

Also, just to let you know....

I am also using an Eye TV hybrid device in another USB port.
I am stating this as I am unsure if there would be a conflict
between two devices that bring in some sort of TV input.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I read that you you have to open Quick Capture first and then Logitech Camera Control. Does this help you any?

Installation problems for the Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 are sometimes caused by other camera software still installed in the Library folder. I really don't know which library they meant so check both locations. The library folders are found at Macintosh HD>Library, & Your UserName>Library.

Other than this, I really don't know what to advise at the moment.

Ahhh, you need ecamm's ichatusbcam software (http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam). This enables most commercially popular webcams to be used in lieu of an iSight for iChat. This is only a $9.95 package, so it is a pretty good deal. Beats the heck out of buying a $150.00 iSight, if you already have a webcam. Bear in mind that need to have loaded the Logitech driver first, but it appears you have done that already.

On top of that, it *appears* that Apple has just discontinued the iSight, so your webcam may be your best bet for now. You can no longer buy an iSight at the online Apple store. Rumor has it that Apple is about to release a new generation of Cinema displays with iSights built in to the bezel, just like iMacs have now.

I thought about that, but consider this line from the MacCam web site:

The component is that actual driver that allows other applications to access the video-stream. (note: iChat does not recognize USB webcams unless you install iChatUSBCam - this is shareware unrelated to macam)

So, you need ichatUSBCam either way.

This is very strange.

I installed the Logitech drivers for the Quickcam 4000 Pro

I opened the QUICK CAPTURE and CAMERA CONTROL

I then installed the ichatUSB

The ichatUSB does come up with iChat, but none of the added
controls appear in the PREFERENCES->VIDEO window. Thus, there
is no way to access my webcam which does not show up in the
mix.

The problem is that Logitech has not yet written drivers for the Intel based macintosh systems. Therefor, even with ichatUSB, the QuickCam Pro 4000 will not work on the Mac Pro....for now.

Logitech is promising drivers shortly.

looking at the configurations ichatusbcam supports

http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/configs.html

They seem to support a number of webcams...including the UltraVision that I think I will try...on my MacBook Pro...will there be a problem...ECAMM says the newest model will work

Logitech Compatibility Information
The following Logitech QuickCams are currently available in two versions. Only the newer version is Mac-compatible (UVC compliant) (Unless otherwise noted.).

* QuickCam for NoteBooks PRO
* QuickCam Orbit MP/Sphere
* QuickCam PRO 5000
* QuickCam Ultra Vision
* QuickCam Fusion

Identifying the newer revision cameras:

The new models are labeled with the "Works with Windows Vista" logo, and also feature "RightLight 2" as one of the features.

Part Number (P/N): The compatible model/part numbers are listed on our camera guide. Unfortunately, the part number can only be found by opening the box.

Logitech provides the following table showing the new vs. old camera models. The cameras marked as "UVC Supt" are Mac-compatible.

Supported QuickCam Devices

Bought the Logitech Ultravision.

It works perfectly on my Mac Intel Pro.

No extra drivers needed.

I see all these notes about the latest Ultra Vision working well with MacBook Pro 10.4.9 OS. The above picture is from the webcam...looks like the viewer has taken LSD. I see no controls to change camera settings.

The image is from iChat.

ALSO...should I be able to use the Ultra Vision with iMovie? iMovie doesn't give me the choice of iSight and USB connected camera...JUST iSight.

HELP!?!?

Thanks, --bill

bdaul,

WoW! That's an ULTRAVISION with a Mac Pro?

I'm not having that problem at all -- then again, I am also
using a $10 utility called ichatusbcam.

You can try it out for FREE, and perhaps, that may clean up the
problem.

Please let us know if it does or doesn't.
