Ok My new imac is on it's way & I would like to get ready for the switch. I need to know how to get my address book & favorites from Firefox onto disk but am not sure how to do this. I did try to get my address book into a folder but it came up as a csv format & unreadable. I can't find anything on firefox where I can export my favorites.

Thanks for any help

"Mozilla applications store your personal settings, added extensions and themes, and user data such as bookmarks, passwords, cookies and mail in a "profile"."

I've found from experience with Linux, you can very easily take a profile from one machine to another (if you have a CDr or USB key or network connection or something else to transfer the files)

Your Firefox profile can be found by clicking Start > Run > and typing %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
Press Enter

An explorer window will pop up and you will see something like k14c85oz.default

This is your FireFox profile it contains your bookmarks, saved passwords, preferences etc.

Just copy the entire folder to the USB key, CDr, across the network to the mac.

On the Mac you want the following location:
~/Library/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/
Or
~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/

Place the k14c85oz.default profile folder here and start Firefox.

Should be all done for you.

As for the Address Book - not sure on that one.

For Firefox:

Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks > File > Export > Save to location of your choice.

You can save it to a disk, yes. Don't know about being able to Import it into Firefox running on your Mac, though. Seems like it should work. I'll let you know, tomorrow, after my Mac Book Pro arrives.

MrsRed:

All switchers should buy (or borrow, or rent) the following book: Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual, Tiger Edition, by David Pogue. It is FANTASTIC and gives you all the tips you need to make the switch a smooth one.

Also, check the following sites for some similar info:

Have fun.
