Crashed Hard drive I think

Hello,
I think my hard drive on my power Mac G4 unit has crashed. Symptoms are hard drive icon shows up briefly, then screechy noises then a clear blue screen with the mouse icon that’s it nothing else comes up.

The next time I tried turning my G4 on the power light comes on and briefly goes out. Nothing else happens.

Is there something I can check myself or do to get up and going again?

Put your Mac OS X Install disc in the drive and hold the C button while booting to boot from CD. Choose your language, and ignore the install screen. In the menu bar, look for Utilities and start disk utility. Try repairing the disk or see first aid or so.

Good last ditch idea yogi, but that sounds like a disk in serious trouble. I suspect reginald_king will need a new one. reginald_king, please do post back what happens when you do as yogi suggested. Useful learning for us all!
