I got 4 500 gb Western Digital HD 3.0gb 16 mb cache...but my mac pro went crazy when i put them in . I dont know if it because of the hd or something was wrong with my new mac pro.

Is there anybody using these drives out there with the mac pro???

I am probably going to take these back...any suggestions what to get. I think I will stick with the drive that apple sends me as my system drive but get 3 additional drives. What do you suggest???

Seagate is the only company with a 5 year warranty of its hard drives. Hitachi? I wouldn't know, quite frankly. Maybe someone else has an opinion...

Just click on the link I posted. Look at the Seagates, it's a matter of which size you'd want, really.

A 4 500 Western Digital HD? Sounds kinda slow to me like the type they put into laptops.

I would personally go with Seagate, myself.

Other World Computing, for example.

Those are very fast WD 500GB SATA Hard Drives. Still waiting for my friends reply.

Another vote for seagates! quiet and fast.
Hitachi are LOUD! I have one in my sons computer, the HD noise drowns out the CPU fan....

I also recommend Seagate drives. I don't rely on WD drives to store any important data whatsoever...

Hitachi has been making some excellent drives lately, but I would still go Seagate hands down. Just get 4 of the Barracuda 7200.10 500GB 16MB drives and you will be flying, or 4 of the 750GB 16MB drives if you can afford it...

Can I leave the original drive in or do you think that I should replace that?

When you first get the machine leave it be for a couple of days and be sure everything works before you add other drives.

Would be interesting to hear what happens when you put in the new drives. I have been using WD drives for about 3 years now and have had no problems at all with them. When i bought my Mac Pro i added 3 of the WD 250 gig drives to it and they have worked perfect. They have been quite dependable and very quiet.

Wow...January 29th I finally got my Mac Pro back. Shipped my bad Mac Pro on the 18th but Apple took their sweet time to send me the new one.
