Removing Adium icon

Is there anyway to remove the adium messenger icon off of the finder bar which appears next to the system time/airport icons?

Have you checked Adium's preferences? There is likely a preference setting to enable/disble this - there is for most programs.

Yep... Preferences -> General

uncheck the "show adium status in menu bar"
