The thing I do with certain sounds like my email sound is place them in the users/username/library/sounds folder. Then they will show up in the Sound Manager in OSX System Preferences and in Mail also. I have had good luck with .WAV's (waves).

Hope that helps.

I tried to use .mp3s but they didn't work so I converted them into .aiff, the same file format the system already had installed and they worked fine.

The Sounds folder can be found here: Macintosh HD ---> System ---> Library ---> Sounds

I was pretty sure .AAIF would work but had not tried it. Thanks for the Heads Up. The sounds will work both places that both I and MacHeadCase suggested. If you put them in the System/Library/Sounds they will show up for all users accounts where my folder will only show up for that user account.
