Now, I know there are other threads about installing apps, and they all say just drag it to the apps folder... But on some sites where you download apps it says that you need to use the terminal interface to install it (.tar.gz)

I am vaguelly familiar with this (used linux for about 2 mos.) can someone explain the different extensions(i am a current winblows user) to me, and explain how to install some of the common extension types? Thanks!!!

Cheers :D

If you have Aladdin stuffit expander you should not have a problem. Stuffit should be able to handle both formats. .tar is a unix tar ball file. Multiple files are compress into one file. a .gz file is a file compress with the gzip application.
