were there any firmware updates for it?

my MB was fine until I did a firmware update. I reloaded it and now it screams.

not that that is an answer but it may be a solution.

There have been numerous threads like this. Start by checking your System Preferences, Energy Saver, Options tab, Processor Performance. Make sure it is at Highest.

If it is set that way, please report back to this forum, and we can go through the other usual culprits, like a full disk, running too many Rosetta based apps at the same time, bad internet connections and so on.
