problems installing ram.

ok i ordered this ram:

and it came in. I followed all instructions and put the ram into my mbp then i went to start it up and then it didn't make the start up noise and the power light on the lid button started blinking. I took out the ram and it started it up and it worked perfect. then i put it back in all the way and it did the same thing. I was just wondering if any one knows why this is and how to fix it because this ram is supposed to be compatible with my mbp c2d. thank you!

ive got 2 sticks of that in my pro right now. no problems.

RMA it. its bad ram it sounds, nothing u can do.

Same thing happened to me. Turned out I hadn't pushed the RAM all the way in. Took more force than I expected.
Carefully see if more force helps, just don't over do it.

I had a similar thing happen to me with a 1GB stick of Centon RAM. I installed it and nothing, the machine would not turn on. Tried it again and again and it would not boot with that stick in the machine.

Took it to work the next day to take it back to the store at lunch and tried taking out the stick that was in the machine and replacing it with the new stick. MacBook booted no problem.

Took it apart and installed both sticks and the machine booted. So I thought I had maybe not pushed it all the way in or something. Took the machine home and started it up. While I was using my PC, I noticed that the Mac had shutdown on its own....bummer.

Tried to boot it up and it would not go...removed and replaced the RAM three more times and it would not work with that RAM.

Must have been fortuitous because that night I looked on CompUSA's website and found a gig stick of PNY for $99.99 after two rebates (one instant at the register and another $30 mail in). I had paid $139.99 for the Centon, so I got cheaper RAM and it worked.

I do think that the Centon was compatible, but that I got a bad stick.

Anyone else tried the Centon RAM in a MBP C2D?

Well while we are on the subject....in another thread- a guy said buy from cruical since apple does and why take the chance. For my Powerbook g4 they offer two? What the heck is the diff b wt the two? Besides $20bucks

The second RAM you listed is faster RAM, but I can't remember the RAM speed on the PBs. If the RAM is faster than the PB's RAM bus, then it will just run at the slower speed. You best bet would be to buy the fasterest supported RAM for the machine, that the machine will use it at.

Dont get the fastest one, unless your machine can use its full speed. Check to see what your machine's RAM speed is, and get RAM at a matched speed. If you buy the faster RAM now, and your machine can't use the faster speed you are wasting money, as it will run at the slower speed anyhow.

well my machine has the slower one in it now, I think? How can I know if it can handle the fastest? Where do I find the Machines RAM SPEED?

I would check your manual, or you can download MacTracker, free on macupdate.com, and find your machine in that. It will tell you what the RAM bus speed is.

Nope, that's not what you want. That would be for the MacBook Pros. You need this RAM.

Thats the first time I've seen PB listsed as being DDR2 compatible. But Crucial doesn't have a MacBook Pro, or MacBook option in their choices. The MB, and MBP both use DDR2 RAM, where the PBs, and iBooks use DDR RAM.

This is the one I have already and it is already DDR2 so maybe this is what I need in the first place.....
