I'm wokring in Excel and for some reason when I click into a cell the program or computer or whatever demon has taken it over starts spacing in the cell, thus deleting what's already there!! I thought it was just a hiccup, but it's happened several times.

Is there some auto function I'm not aware of or is my computer possessed?!?!

As a general question, do you have a sticky space bar perhaps? Is your hand near the space bar when this happens? You say that it is not consistent, hence the questions. Do you have a wireless keyboard and mouse? Could the keyboard battery be getting low and hence the signal is starting to "sputter"?

In the preferences, check Edit > "Edit directly in cells" to see whether it is checked.
