i say 160GB is enough, but your computer will come preinstalled with about 10-20GB of info. unless your doing MASSIVE video editing or something, you prob. wont need a 200GB. if you feel better getting the 200, go for it

Im asking if i get the 200 will the harddrive be really slow and suck? I use alot of space i have 500gb in my PC and ive used 350 with just pictures and music so i might need 200. But will it be to slow for rpm speed.

well what is the rpm speed on both? 5400 and 7200? cuase i have a 120gb 5400 and its really not that slow. plus another alternative is to just purchase an external hard drive later if you need more space.

I can't comment on the speeds, but are you sure you need a laptop? What you get in portability, you trade off in hard drive capacity, unless you really want to pay for it.

Just to put things into prospective, the cheapest MBP goes for $1999, which gets you a 120GB HD and 15" screen. The iMac price equalivant gets you a 250GB HD and a 24" screen...same processor, same amount of RAM.

If you're looking at a 17" MBP, you're looking at $2700-2800. If you drop $2800 on an iMac, it gets you the same processor and RAM as the 17" MBP...but a 750GB HD (and 24" monitor).

I mention this because it sounds to me like the 200GB may not even be enough for you. I'd make sure you need the portability of a laptop, and probably read up on external drives. I have a 160GB Lacie USB drive, and to me it's absolutely cavernous. But a lot of these external drives aren't the fastest thing in the world. It does well with individual files and there's no noticable lag. But when opening up folders with tons of data in there, it does lag a bit. I'm talking folders that are over 2GB or so, there's a definite wait compared to my internal drive.

Hope that helps,

Im assuming you have thought hard about the laptop vs. desktop issue-so no comment on that. I would just get a large external drive for storage of your rarely used data and get the 160 gig drive for its 5400 speed (vs 4800 for the 200 gig). Seems like a no brainer to me.

I just ordered my macbook and I wanted 100+GB. Since they come a bit preloaded I opted for 160GB. If I need more than that I could just use my PC HD or buy an external.
