OK, I love OS X, just one thing gets to me, American English.

Basically, I am British and an English teacher, so I want British English. Please lets not start a debate about US/UK English as we all have opinions and it won't be settled here. I save that arguement for work.

My OS X is in US and would prefer UK. Two basic questions:

UK members, do you have British English?

and

Can I change it? I looked in the international section of system preferences and couldn't see any options. Everything is set to the UK, but I still "Color". Why, its starting to get to me, and the MSN spell checker, I hate it.

Who said anything about having an argument??? :)

In Prefs>International I only have 'English' available in language and under Formats I can select 'United Kingdom as the region.

Under Input Menu I have 'British' ticked.

All these apply to OS X settings though, so Microsoft products will need changing to British from within their own settings.

You can also choose UK English in the Mac OS X dictionary.

To set this, in most apps it is placed in the menubar under Edit ---> Spelling ---> Spelling...

Once the Spelling window opens, at the very bottom of this window there is a drop-down menu where you choose the language and in those selections you do have British english.

Hope this helps. :girl:

Trust me, this starts major arguements which is right. Which is used most and which none native speakers should use.

I have all my international setting changed to UK and office on UK dictionary. But still the system is in US not UK. I have multilingual OSX too

Can you give us an example of where the dodgy spelling occurs?

Erm, I don't think you can fix it I'm afraid. It says color on mine too.

Oh well that sucks, I guess it doesn't really matter.
