When I navigate away from certain windows, they disappear; particularly Finder dialogues.

For example, if I choose 'connect to server' in Finder, the username/password window for the server I have chosen will pop up. If for example I then receive an email, or want to check something in another app. and use Expose or cmd tab, then the dialogue window is hidden automatically, even after returning to Finder.

I know it is still running, because the progress bar is visible, and I seem to remember that if I close all apps and try to logout, the window mysteriously re-appears.

Does anyone know if it's possible to force these hidden windows to reappear? I have tried the following:

expose

cmd tab

cmd ~

Finder>Window>Bring All To Front

but no joy - any ideas?

thank you
