flashing globe on imac intel on startup

does anyone know if it is normal for a globe to flash for about a minute when you start up an intel imac

That means that it connects to a network on startup instead of looking up for its system on the hard drive first.

To disable this, go to your System Preferences, in the System section you will find an item called Startup Disk. Click on it once to access the pane. Once in there, click on the Mac OS X folder, restart and it should be fixed now.
