What specifically do you need to access?
If it is just files, then set up your mac as an FTP server (System Preferences|Sharing). This will use the same username and password as your main account and is pretty secure.
You will need to know your external IP address (i.e. the IP address of your computer on the internet, as opposed to its address on your home network).
